Place of Assembly launch this Wednesday night with FOX+SUI, SPEED PAINTERS and CLIENT LIASON by blak3b5

 Place of Assembly

Two Bright Lakes are very proud to be a part of the community at Schoolhouse Studios, and to have been asked to program the music for their upcoming exhibition Place of Assembly (10th-27th October)

Over the last 2 years, Schoolhouse Studios in Abbotsford has been the workplace of over 75 artists working across a wide range of disciplines. With the demolition of the site planned for the end of 2012, resulting in the displacement of the tenants, founders Elizabeth Barnett & Alice Glenn, in conjunction with Melbourne International Arts Festival, are curating a two-week, site-wide exhibition. To find out more about the artists involved, go to the Place of Assembly website.

Playing at the opening night, Wednesday October 10th, from 8pm, are Fox + Sui, Speed Painters, Client Liason and Two Bright Lakes DJs. It’s free and you won’t regret coming and celebrating one of the most vibrant artistic communities in Melbourne, before it’s gone…
Co-curator Alice Glenn and Blake Byron-Smith from Two Bright Lakes will be on RRR tonight on Set It Out from 5:30pm talking about the exhibition and opening night.

FOX + SUI Summer Storm/Moon Nightclub 7″ out now / Taboo EP out October 12 / Summer Storm video / Melbourne live shows by blak3b5

Following up on the digital release of their oceanic single Summer Storm, Melbourne dream pop duo Fox + Sui release their debut six track EP Taboo through Two Bright Lakes and Remote Control. Featuring the delicate 4-track production work of Melbourne’s Andras Fox and the vocal and lyrical talents of former Sydney resident Sui Zhen, the Taboo EP is a beautifully textured collaboration between two musical minds who first made contact as part of the Red Bull Music Academy in London 2010.

Following support slots with TuneYardsKnxwledgeLost AnimalOscar + Martin and collaborations with James Pants, Fox + Sui have honed a striking and colourful live show that has impressed audiences along the east coast of Australia and will be playing selected shows in Melbourne throughout October and November.

Moving from lounge pop through syncopated beats and library music, the EP is a taste of an exotic concoction brewing, with Fox + Sui at work on a full length album due out in 2013.

SPEED PAINTERS at Workers Club Sunday arvo by blak3b5

Speed Painters supporting Romy with Super Melody, Polygon Palace and Megastick Fanfare w/ DJ Dan Block – starts 4pm, get on down…

Check out Speed Painters new track here

From the Workers Club blog:

“The Worker’s Club knows that summer is a magical time. It’s a time for laughing, for togetherness, for getting sloshed and seeing bands. They know that a good summer is all killer and no filler, and so over five consecutive Sundays they’re hosting The Summer Series, a collection of magical days to make sure that your summer is non-stop hits. The line-ups are ace and the headliners are heroes; Slug Guts, Romy, Beaches, The Ancients and all their mates want you and all of yours to attend with frosty pints clutches in your sweaty hands and a dazed, summery smile plastered over your face.

Synthetic anthemist Romy plays 28th of November. It’s a futurist vision of utopian summers, shimmering lamé and a sophisticated, efficient romances dancing in orbit. She plays with Polygon Palace, glittering harbingers of starlit dancefloor stompers, and Super Melody, ultrasmooth synthetic funkmasters with hip-swaying grooves. Sydney siders Megastick Fanfare drop by with their unique dance pop. And finally is Speed Painters, a warm sugary sway of relaxed afternoon electronica.

DJ Dan Block will be spinning sweet, sweet tunes between sets, so get down, have a drink and relax-ah!”
