Two Bright Lakes is proud to release the debut film clip ‘Ninja’, from Banoffee premiered today on US blog Pigeons and Planes.
Banoffee is the sweet solo sound of Martha Brown (Otouto), a Melbourne songwriter with a keen ear for vintage synthesizers and modern R-n-B.
Banoffee’s music recalls the balearic sounds of the 1980s and the futurist space of UK bass music, merging with her own arresting take on R’n’B, a musical place where Detroit inspired synths end up in love songs that sound distinctly modern.
Her debut single Ninja twists and starts, Martha’s voice taking you where you’d least expect. Regular collaborator Alice Glenn accompanies the song with an hypnotic and intimate clip shot in an otherworldly warehouse space.
Two Bright Lakes is very excited to be releasing the first of Banoffee’s music to the world, beautifully crafted, esoteric pop music from a strong female voice.
“Banoffee plies intimate ache into jams that still inspire dancefloor joy.”

Two Bright Lakes and Wondercore Island are excited to present Oscar Key Sung live over 4 Thursdays in June at Melbourne’s new non-profit bar Shebeen in Manchester Lane.
Since exploding out of the Two Bright Lakes community as one half of Oscar + Martin in 2010, Oscar has received international acclaim for his refreshingly spacious productions, buoyant performances, and a sumptuous voice that harkens back to a classic lineage of heart-on-sleeve r ‘n’ b frontmen
Bringing in 2013 with perhaps his biggest breakthrough yet, Oscar Key Sung was handpicked by Mercury Music Prize-nominated mc Ghostpoet and Brooklyn-based artist MeLo-X to produce their debut release as MELOGHOST, ‘WecanWORKitout’. Quickly receiving over 44,000 plays and with further collaborations in the pipeline, Oscar’s latest single ‘WIMLTM’ recently clocked 20,000 plays with no associated promotional backing or performances.
Now receiving further spins and the tastemaking praise of BBC Radio 6 programmer Gilles Peterson, Oscar Key Sung is now set to bring his startling story to the international stage with two promotional singles ‘It’s Coming’ and ‘Sure Thing’, out now for free download at www.oscarkeysung.bandcamp.com

In the late sixties, the “famous Ormond Hall” experienced a surge in popularity when it became home to one of Melbourne ’s most popular dance clubs, Opus. Opus was the place to be for the “teen and twenties” set, and provided patrons with live music, Opusdancers, and a coffee lounge with television screens every Saturday and Sunday night.

For one night only, Nick Huggins and his band will be re-creating his achingly beautiful soundtrack for ‘I Am Eleven’ live on stage. Gentle but piercingly insightful, like the film itself, it will be a unique accompaniment to this funny, sweet and knowing meditation on the things about growing up that bind us together, and those that tear us apart.
Directed by Genevieve Bailey, ‘I Am Eleven’ is a truly joyful cinematic experience, and Nick’s score a triumph, don’t miss out on the chance to see it performed live this Thursday night at ACMI.

Following up on the digital release of their oceanic single Summer Storm, Melbourne dream pop duo Fox + Sui release their debut six track EP Taboo through Two Bright Lakes and Remote Control. Featuring the delicate 4-track production work of Melbourne’s Andras Fox and the vocal and lyrical talents of former Sydney resident Sui Zhen, the Taboo EP is a beautifully textured collaboration between two musical minds who first made contact as part of the Red Bull Music Academy in London 2010.
Following support slots with TuneYards, Knxwledge, Lost Animal, Oscar + Martin and collaborations with James Pants, Fox + Sui have honed a striking and colourful live show that has impressed audiences along the east coast of Australia and will be playing selected shows in Melbourne throughout October and November.
Moving from lounge pop through syncopated beats and library music, the EP is a taste of an exotic concoction brewing, with Fox + Sui at work on a full length album due out in 2013.
The Taboo EP is available on CD and for digital download from October 12th, 2012 and is available from all good record stores and online through Two Bright Lakes.
